Old refrigerators are the appliance people are most likely to be stuck with: the new one is delivered but the crew won't take the old one down the stairs; the garage fridge finally died; the basement chest freezer hasn't been opened in years. We've hauled over 200 refrigerators and freezers in the last 24 months. A fridge can't go to a landfill. Ours go to a local recycler who handles them responsibly. If a unit still works and is reasonably efficient, we'll try to re-home it instead.
What We Take
- Full-size refrigerators (top, bottom, side-by-side, French door)
- Chest and upright freezers
- Mini fridges, wine and beverage coolers
- Commercial reach-ins and display coolers
- Built-in and counter-depth units (pulled from cabinetry)
- Ice makers and kegerators
- Basement and garage units of any age
How Refrigerator & Freezer Removal Works
-
1
Book a free onsite estimate
Book online, or call or text (312) 800-1940. Pick an arrival window — same-day and next-day are often available, Monday through Saturday.
-
2
The crew gives you a firm price on the spot
They look at everything and quote one number that covers labor, loading, hauling and disposal. No obligation: if it doesn't work for you, they leave and there's no charge.
-
3
Say yes and it's gone — same visit
The crew carries everything out from wherever it sits, loads it, and sweeps up. Most jobs are finished in that same visit.
-
4
You don't even have to be there
If the crew can reach the items — alley, garage, a doorman or a code — they'll do the job while you're at work, send before-and-after photos, and take payment by phone or with a card on file.
Refrigerator & Freezer Removal FAQs
Do I need to empty and defrost it?
Empty it, yes. Defrosting is nice but not required — unplug it the night before if you can, and put a towel underneath.
Where does it go?
To a local recycler who recycles refrigerators responsibly. That's included in the price.
Will Chicago pick up my old fridge?
Not on garbage day. Chicago residents can request a bulk pickup through 311; expect a wait and rules about placement. ComEd has offered a fridge recycling pickup with a rebate at various times — check if you're not in a hurry.
Can you take a built-in or a Sub-Zero style unit?
Yes. Built-ins need to be unscrewed from the cabinetry and are heavy; tell us in advance so we send the right crew.
Do you take commercial coolers?
Yes, disconnected.
Do I need to be home?
No — and a lot of our customers aren't. If the crew can reach the item (alley, garage, porch, a doorman or a door code), they text you the price for a yes, do the job, send before-and-after photos, and take payment by phone or card on file.
Free Onsite Estimate, One Firm Price
We don't quote by phone. The crew comes out for free, looks at what's going and how it's getting out — stairs, elevators, heavy material — and gives you one number that covers everything. Say yes and they do the job on the spot. Say no and there's no charge.
