Since 2012, Illinois has banned TVs, computers, monitors, printers and most other electronics from landfills. That's the right policy and a real headache: the garbage truck won't take it, drop-off sites have limits and lines, and old CRT and projection TVs are too heavy for most people to move. We removed over 480 electronics loads in the last 24 months, from single TVs to whole-office IT clearouts. Everything goes to a local electronics recycler who handles it responsibly. For computers and drives, wipe your data first — or, for businesses, ask about a certificate of destruction from the recycler (extra charge).

Can I put a TV in the garbage in Chicago?
No. Illinois law bans TVs, monitors, computers and most electronics from landfills, and Chicago crews won't take them. The city's Household Chemicals & Computer Recycling Facility at 1150 N. North Branch St. accepts electronics from residents (with limits on TVs); otherwise, we'll pick them up.
Do you take old projection or tube TVs?
Yes. They're the heaviest thing in most basements and the reason people call us.
Is my data safe?
Wipe or remove drives before pickup if you can. For businesses, our electronics recycler can provide a certificate of destruction for an extra charge — ask when you book.
Do you take batteries?
Small household batteries and lithium batteries are hazardous waste and should go to a battery drop-off (many hardware stores) or the city facility. Car batteries: auto parts stores take them free. We can't transport loose lithium batteries on our trucks.
Where do the electronics actually go?
To a local electronics recycler who recycles them responsibly. Nothing goes to a landfill from us.
Do I need to be home?
No — and a lot of our customers aren't. If the crew can reach the item (alley, garage, porch, a doorman or a door code), they text you the price for a yes, do the job, send before-and-after photos, and take payment by phone or card on file.
